I thought a little re-cap of just how Sheldon got into this big ol’ mess in the first place would be nice. Seeing as how the scene of his flight from the shrink’s office was depicted almost two years ago.

Who knows how old that orange juice is? But I reckoned it would have to be nicely fermented by the time Sheldon guzzled it down. Hence the ginormous belch.

(I find it odd that my spell check accepted “ginormous” as a word.)

I thought I’d give the whale the name of a great rescuer, and it’s hard to find one better than Tuvia Bielski.

Okay, Harriet Tubman, Oskar Schindler, Sojourner Truth … Moses … to name a few.

But a) Tuvia is a great name, b) sharks : Nazis, and c) what a story that guy (and his brother, Zus) had! So good, they made a movie about their leadership of the Jewish resistance in the Belarussian forests; Tuvia himself was played by none other than Daniel Craig.

Amazingly, WikiAnswers has the answers for those wondering, Can you survive in a whale’s stomach? And the BBC offers advice, too.

Who knew this was such a problem? Legend holds that one James Bartlely, a “Modern Jonah” survived a couple days inside a sperm whale. For the duly skeptical, there is always The Straight Dope analysis. For the most part, sperm whales prefer squid over people.

Alas, there is no mention of how a sperm whale can be wired for electricity. The idea for the various contents in our whale’s tummy (his name is Tuvia, btw; they’ll make formal greetings next week) comes from the books on marine life I read to my son at bedtime. They invariably mention strange things that marine biologists and fishermen have found in the stomachs of sharks and whales. I think my favorite is a shark with a shark in its tummy that also had a shark in its tummy, like some grotesque set of nesting dolls.

I think you can pretty much expect that if there is not an update on Wednesday, it will appear on Friday. My son was home sick this week, so I couldn’t get any work done. I had been AHEAD only a couple weeks ago, but the Spring Break and Various Other Things Life Throws At a Person put me off track.

My son is fine now, by the way.

Also: If you are coming here from Red State, you should know that I am not the Kevin Moore who sent Erick Erickson a threatening email. Mine is a common enough name (seriously, I have thought of changing it or at least adopting a nom de plum); and threatening people with physical harm is really not my style. If I don’t like someone, I simply don’t talk to them. Why waste my time? At worst I’ll draw a rude cartoon of them. Not a mature nor enlightened approach, I guess, but it’s at least not violent.

Actually I’ve been pretty good about that for the last few months. I wish I could clone myself and make the stupid clone do all the drudge work while I, the artistic genius unleash my brilliant creativity upon the world. Or at least get the pig on schedule. Either way.

Thought I’d something more to say….

Until a few people pointed it out, the resemblance of the sharks to Jabberjaw had not occurred to me. It’s weird what creeps into your subconscious and then creeps back out 30 years later.

After all this time, the show really doesn’t hold up.

Mermaids were fun to draw, but sharks? Whole new level. Fun doesn’t begin to describe it. Suddenly I’m a six-year-old with a giant picture of a shark to copy from — save that I’m really a 40-yo with Google image finder at my disposal, and thus thousands of shark reference photos. Hence the bits of blood on the shark gums. My six-year-old son would approve.
