Long Way from Home Page 33

This page brought to you by ibuprofen, acetaminophen, Icy Hot, and an ice pack. In other words, this week has been a battle with back pain. BUT! That is not all. Asthma kicked in due to humidity and allergies. I’ll forego details, but it was gross.

Anyhowz, here be a new page. Thanks again for your patience. As you can see, more wolves. But now the odds are more evened out, perhaps more in our protagonists’ favor, as they have weapons now. As I drew this, my 8-year-old son wondered that I would put such dangerous implements in the hands of children. He worried that Chloe would roast herself with that flaming branch. Once again, whatever I as a creative adult can conjure up will not match the violence a kid can imagine.

Recently learned that wolves are on the rise in Oregon, turning up in places too close for human comfort. Or maybe it’s the other way around — we keep invading their habitats with shopping malls and ranches. Either way, I don’t recommend fighting them with swords.

For all his social cluelessness, that warthog is pretty handy to have around when you’re in a tight spot.

I have known a lot of guys like that. Socially awkward but reliable.

I particularly like the way Sheldon and Warthog take up the conversation as if they were only briefly interrupted by a barking dog, not as if they had gone their separate ways for days and the latter has returned as a sort of deus ex machina. Plus, swords. yay!

and Chloe’s reaction to this turn of events is priceless. Well done, sir, well done indeed!
